Personal care, missions

When I show my photo book of our last Honduras trip to friends, one thing many point out is how clean and well dressed some of the kids are, especially the older ones. It may surprise some to know that it is some of the older boys that are pointed out as being the most well groomed.

But it's not by good luck or good fortunes. They take great care of the few things they have. With a small dorm filled with bunks, and small cubbies for their possessions, they don't have a lot of nice things. But it was a regular sight to see the teenagers washing their clothes on the stone water pila basins.  They scoop water from the center basin onto the washboards and scrub their clothes in the cold water with bars of soap. Then they hang their clothes in the sun, over the fence, or laid flat on the ground.  They know their clothes are not easily come by; they take care of them and of how they look. It's something they can do well for themselves. So they do.

Goals for Preparations and Fundraising

Since we're visiting the same place as last year, the Manuelito Project, all the concerns of the unknown are settled. We know where we are going, we know the people, the food, the sleeping arrangements, the weather, the kind of work we will be doing. So for the next 5 months we can focus on some new ideas for what we will do with the kids in Honduras, and how we will raise the money.

Since the money is due first, we will be focusing on that upfront. A third is due in just a couple of months. We have a big goal for our family: $8,000.

That covers: air fares, room and board, then an amount to cover projects that we will be doing - for example, materials, paint, tools etc. So it's not all to get us there - a lot of it is for the project itself and will benefit the kids. The project just began the foundations for a new school so we might be working on that!!

New Year and New Opportunities

Last year's posts came to an abrupt halt as work got so busy, and life took over. Changes at home and other things took priority over writing about them.

But I am really excited to have another excuse to start posting again! Because we are going back to Honduras! All four of us, Jason, Joshua, Jessica and I will be going back to the Manuelito Project in Honduras this August.

I am so excited and feeling blessed to get this chance to travel again with a team from church. To meet for planning, bible study, fundraising and so much more. I am really interested to see how it unfolds this year as we come to it a little older, having grown a little more, and with more experience under our belt. Perhaps a little more relaxed as it's more familiar to us, with more ideas and room to grow.

We request prayers for the coming months as we prepare again. As we get to know new team members, as our son joins us this year for his first trip, and as we prepare ourselves spiritually and physically.
